It narrates the early years in lush Kingston, Jamaica, a period of professional life in North Africa, and a reluctant acceptance of adulthood amidst a mysterious discovery of a skeleton in South Asia. This narrative unveils Mr. Chris, as termed by his Indian headmaster, on a quest to find his position in the world, his life's purpose, and some redemption from the haunting whispers and damaged voices that echo through his private nights of melancholy, quiet, and rage-filled with introspection and suppressed fury.

Waterman, Barry R.: - The late Barry Robert Waterman was born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1960 (the year of the rat). He was educated at the Priory Private School, Kingston, Jamaica; Hillcrest High School; and the universities of Ottawa and Acadia. In 1982, he was awarded an Ontario Arts Council grant for his play Gelded Fortune. From 1985 to 1987 he served with World University Services of Canada in Tashigang, Bhutan, South Asia. In addition to his theatre and prose fiction, Mr. Waterman has also written several songs for the stage and screen, most recently for the telefilm Love and Defection. He has worked as a reporter and a teacher of English.
