Mai 2004 ist Polens Landwirtschaft in eine neue Dimension vorgedrungen: einerseits ist nun der Zugang zu Fördergeldern, zu technischer und wirtschaftlicher Hilfe wesentlich einfacher möglich als zuvor. Andererseits hat sich die Konkurrenzsituation für die polnischen Betriebe aber nochmals verschärft. Es sind sowohl Chancen, als auch Risiken für den Agrarsektor Polens mit dem EU Beitritt verbunden. Erleichtert wurde die Anpassung an die EU Normen sicherlich durch die umfassende Transformation seit 1990, weshalb innerhalb der vorliegenden Arbeit die historische Entwicklung der Landwirtschaft Polens kritisch dargestellt werden soll, um am Ende ein prägnantes Fazit der genutzten und verpassten Chancen zu erlauben. Fokus der Arbeit soll hierbei die Wojewodschaft Niederschlesien sein. Deshalb wird zu Beginn die Verwaltungsreform von 1990 kurz vorgestellt, um die räumliche Eingrenzung des Untersuchungsraumes zu verdeutlichen.
