Jahrhunderts erlebt das brasilianische Amazonien, das grö te zusammenhängende und in weiten Teilen unerschlossene Regenwaldgebiet der Welt, eine Dynamik bisher ungekannten Ausma es. Fernstra enbau, kleinbäuerliche Agrarkolonisation, die Expansion riesiger Rinderfarmen und die Ausbeutung der natürlichen Rohstoffe kennzeichnen diesen Entwicklungsboom. Folgen sind zahlreiche Interessen- und Landkonflikte, die Verdrängung der indigenen Bevölkerung, ein hoher Grad der Verstädterung durch Verdrängung der Kleinbauern und nicht zuletzt die zunehmende Zerstörung der "grünen Lunge" der Welt. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Gang der Erschlie ung und die Entstehung der heutigen Agrarstruktur nachvollzogen. Zu diesem Zweck wird zuerst die historische und aktuelle Landnutzung beschrieben, wobei die Möglichkeiten und Konsequenzen der Produkt- bzw. Produktionswahl im Vordergrund stehen. Es folgt eines Untersuchung der Besiedelung, wobei es vor allem darum geht, die verschiedenen sozialen und ökonomischen Strukturen der Region darzustellen und historisch zu erklären. In diesem Rahmen wird das Thema der Migration ständig zur Erklärung aufzugreifen sein. In einem letzten Schritt werden Eigentumsverhältnisse sowie die unterschiedlichen Betriebsgrö en dargestellt um zu versuchen die Entwicklung dieser anhand der erarbeiteten Informationen zu erklären, sowie aktuelle Trends herauszuarbeiten. Zur Interpretation und Erklärung der aktuellen strukturellen Betriebsverhältnisse werden die Daten aus den aktuellen Agrazensen des IBGE herangezogen. Innerhalb des Amazonasgebietes variieren sowohl die ökologischen als auch die ökonomischen Gegebenheiten sehr stark.
