The first part of this booklet addresses prescription writing, and the second part is all about osteoporosis. Osteoporosis remains one of the most under-recognized yet consequential noncommunicable diseases affecting women worldwide. Often termed the “silent disease,” it progresses insidiously until a fracture occurs—frequently marking the beginning of pain, disability, loss of independence, and increased mortality. Despite advances in diagnostics and therapeutics, osteoporosis continues to be diagnosed late and treated inadequately, particularly in women. This manual has been conceived to address a crucial gap in osteoporosis care: the need to shift focus from fracture-driven management to prevention, early identification, and holistic intervention. Osteoporosis is not a disease that begins at menopause or old age; rather, it is a life-course condition, influenced by nutrition, physical activity, hormonal transitions, metabolic health, environmental factors, and sociocultural determinants from adolescence onward.
