Im vorliegenden Band 9 der Buchreihe "Halbleiter-Elektronik" werden aktive Mikrowellendioden behandelt. Diese Dioden können durch einen Zweipol dargestellt werden, dessen Realteil einen negativen differentiellen Hochfrequenz- wirkwiderstand aufweist. Damit werden diese Dioden in den Hauptanwendungen der Hochfrequenztechnik, nämlich in der Nachrichtenübertragung, Funknaviga- tion sowie in der Funkme technik vorwiegend in Oszillator- und Verstärkeranord- nungen eingesetzt. Das Buch behandelt vier verschiedene Diodentypen, die im Laufe der mehr als zwanzigjährigen Entwicklungsgeschichte der aktiven Mikrowellendioden nunmehr fest in der Hochfrequenztechnik etabliert sind. In der Rangfolge ihrer praktischen Bedeutung sind dies die Lawinenlaufzeitdiode, das Elektronentransfer(Gunn-) Element, die Barittdiode und die Tunneldiode. (Im Buch folgt allerdings die Reihung der vier Kapitel nach anderen Gesichtspunkten). Bei der Beschreibung der Dioden wird den eigentlichen elektronischen Mechanismen, die zur Umwandlung von Gleichleistung in Hochfrequenzleistung führen, dem Einflu der unvermeidlichen Bahnverluste und dem Hochfrequenz- rauschen besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet. Auf die Darstellung der zugehöri- gen Hochfrequenzschaltungen wird im Rahmen dieses Buches, so weit es zulässig ist, verzichtet. (Weiterführende Bücher sind in der Einleitung angegeben). Im Sinne einer zweckmä igen Abgrenzung auf den Anwendungsbereich von Hochfrequenz- transistoren konzentriert sich die Behandlung der Mikrowellendioden auf Frequenzen oberhalb 1000 MHz bis hin in das Millimeterwellengebiet. Das Buch ist zum gro en Teil aus Unterlagen zu einer zweisemestrigen Vorlesung entstanden, die für Studierende der Elektrotechnik an der Technischen Universität München gehalten wird. In diesem Buch sind auch Forschungsergebnisse aus dem Lehrstuhl für Allgemeine Elektrotechnik und Angewandte Elektronik der Technischen Universität München mit aufgenommen.
