Why does someone, instead of fleeing from the fire, which would be natural, run to meet it?
The young Sofia, with a remarkable mathematical intelligence, belonging to the bourgeoisie of Puerto Rico, lives in a beautiful blue mansion and is the granddaughter of a very powerful man. However, it's all a façade.
The house has been taken over by the illness of his mother, Pandora, who suffers from Diogenes Syndrome and has turned the mansion into a garbage dump full of cockroaches and bad smell. His grandfather becomes more and more sinister, his father Alberto lives locked in the bubble of "I don't mess with anyone" and his adored grandmother Marta has just committed suicide.
If Sofia wants to twist her destiny, she must perform a risky, unprecedented act and that is what she does: she runs away from home and begins a story that brings her closer to burning and unsuspected truths about her family and her own identity.

Sampedro, Helena: - Puertorriqueña nacida en Brooklyn, reside entre Puerto Rico y España. Estudió comunicaciones y más tarde culminó una maestría en Creación Literaria de la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón en Puerto Rico. También posee una maestría en Negocios de la Universidad de Miami. Cursó un Máster en Narrativas de la Escuela de Escritores en Madrid. La víspera del grito, su primera novela, ganó el segundo lugar a la mejor novela de drama en español de los International Latino Book Awards en 2017. Al encuentro del fuego es su primera incursión en la literatura juvenil.
Helena Sampedro was born in Brooklyn and has lived in Puerto Rico since she was five years old. She studied communication and holds a master's in Literary Writing from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico. She also holds a master's in business from the University of Miami. She has been an outstanding communications executive in Puerto Rico, as well as a businesswoman for over twenty years. La víspera del grito (The Eve of the Scream) was her first published novel. Al encuentro del fuego (Encountering the Fire) is her first foray into YA literature.
