This translated and annotated edition presents a rare, indigenous account of the Regency of Algiers' military encounters with European powers between the 16th and 18th centuries.

Moving beyond the reductive paradigm of piracy, Al-Tlemceni frames the conflict within the context of Jihad and territorial defense, offering detailed eyewitness accounts of pivotal events, including the disastrous Spanish expedition of 1541 and the decisive defeat of General O'Reilly in 1775.
