About The Book

Aleksander Doba was a sixty-three-year-old Polish engineer when he first decided to paddle across the Atlantic Ocean. Most people thought he was mad. By the time he was seventy, he had completed three solo transatlantic crossings, survived catastrophic equipment failures, endured months of isolation and suffering, and redefined what humans could accomplish in their later years.This is not a story about athletic prowess or natural talent. Aleksander was an ordinary man who worked at a factory for forty years under communist rule. He kayaked on weekends. He lived a normal life. But inside him burned a refusal to accept that age should limit ambition, that retirement should mean withdrawal from challenges, that seventy was too old to attempt the impossible.
His final chapter came at seventy-four on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, where he reached the summit and died shortly after-a fitting end for a man who lived on his own terms until the last moment.
