Ich bin mir selbst fremd geworden", gibt der Protagonist von Wim Wenders Roadmovie Alice in den St dten zu, als er eine Freundin besucht. R diger Vogler spielt den deutschen Journalisten Philip Winter, der eine Reise durch die USA unternimmt, um eine Geschichte im Auftrag seines Verlegers zu schreiben. W hrenddessen aber verliert er sein Selbstgef hl, ihm ist, wie er seiner Freundin gesteht, "H ren und Sehen vergangen". Als er den Flug zur ck in die Heimat buchen will, trifft er zuf llig auf das junge M dchen Alice, das ihm durch ihre kindliche Unbefangenheit, "her uncomplicated understanding of things and her simplicity of vision" unbewusst hilft, wieder zu sich selbst zu finden. Wie im Film die Selbstentfremdung des Protagonisten und der Prozess seiner Selbstfindung im Bild zum Ausdruck gebracht wird und inhaltlich thematisiert wird, soll im Folgenden analysiert und interpretiert werden. Der 110 Minuten lange Schwarzwei film, der 1974 in Deutschland und Amerika gedreht wurde, l sst sich in zwei bzw. drei Abschnitte unterteilen. Bei einer Zweiteilung wird unterschieden zwischen der Zeit, die Philipp ohne Alice und sp ter mit Alice verbringt, sodass die Grenze der Abschnitte in der siebzehnten Minute des Films gezogen werden muss, wenn Philipp und Alice in der Dreht r am Flughafen aufeinandertreffen. Es besteht aber auch die M glichkeit, den zweiten Abschnitt nochmals in zwei H lften aufzuteilen. Auf diese Weise thematisiert der allererste Teil bis zur genannten Grenze weiterhin Philipps Selbstentfremdung in Amerika, in der Alice noch keine Roll
