The newest installment in the celebrated illustrated series about Amazing Atlantic Canadians, featuring incredible Indigenous people.

Delve into the uplifting stories of the people of Mi'kma'ki in this full-colour illustrated book. Meet a devoted water protector, learn about a teen determined to shed light on the tragic history of Residential Schools, and discover poets who use words to explore and champion the rich Mi'kmaw culture. From Grand Chief Gabriele Sylliboy and Elder Dorene Bernard to Rebecca Thomas and Landyn Toney, all of these amazing people call Mi'kma'ki (a territory that includes New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and parts of Newfoundland, Quebec, and Maine) home.

With dozens of profiles featuring artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, scientists, and more -- both historical and present-day, from kids to Elders -- Julie Pellissier-Lush and Robin Grant celebrate the many brilliant achievements of the Mi'kmaq.

Includes original colour illustrations by James Bentley, informative sidebars, a map of Mi'kmaw territories, a history of Mi'kma'ki, an index, and a glossary.

Bentley, James: - James Bentley lives and works on the small island of Île-Perrot, just off Montréal, Québec. He studied and began his career as a freelance illustrator, a practice which gave him a great love for drawing. James has been recognized by The Society of Illustrators of New York, Communication Arts, and Applied Arts, and one of his most valued awards is The Joseph Morgan Henninger Award for Best of Show, given by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.

Grant, Robin: - Robin Grant is a seasoned consultant and journalist whose life and work are underpinned by a passion for social activism, a love of the arts, and a belief in the limitless potential of young people. Robin founded For the Love of Learning (now ArtForce NL); launched branches of Journalists for Human Rights, Uth Ink, and Homeless Nation; was awarded the Council of the Federation Literacy Medallion; and was featured in a Chatelaine cover story titled, "The Right to Read: How One Woman Made a Difference." After moving to Nova Scotia in 2017, Robin launched Digitally Lit: Atlantic Canadian Youth Read. When not championing literacy, she can be found enjoying life with her husband, Mike, his two children, and their three spoiled cats.

Pellissier-Lush, Julie: - Julie Pellissier-Lush is an actress, knowledge keeper, storyteller, and bestselling author. She is the first Indigenous Poet Laureate for PEI, recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Senators 150 metal. Julie helped to script the play Mi'kmaq Legends, performed now for the last 12 years. Her hope is to preserve and share her rich and beautiful Mi?kmaq history and culture. Julie lives in PEI with her husband Rick, her five children, and her granddaughter Miah.
