Among The Freaks is a novel written by William Livingston Alden and first published in 1896. The story revolves around a young man named Tom who is fascinated by circus performers and sideshow freaks. Tom is a wealthy and privileged young man who has grown bored with his life of privilege and seeks excitement and adventure.As he becomes more involved with the circus world, Tom develops a close relationship with a group of performers, including a bearded lady, a giant, and a dwarf. He becomes enamored with their unique talents and personalities, and begins to see them as more than just freaks.However, Tom's involvement with the circus world also exposes him to the darker side of the industry, including exploitation and mistreatment of performers. As he becomes more aware of these issues, Tom must decide whether to continue his fascination with the freaks or to take action to help them.Throughout the novel, Alden explores themes of identity, social class, and the treatment of marginalized groups. The book provides a unique glimpse into the world of circus performers and sideshow freaks during the late 19th century.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
