Gary L. Gaines set out to discuss the logic of an agnostic. An agnostic himself, Gaines provides many reasons why the god of Abraham is not logical. However, his analytical thinking and logic eventually took him down a path to a different god who almost anyone could accept.

Gaines is not anti-religious. However, he feels that many beliefs associated with the god of Abraham are illogical, and he discusses dozens of reasons why. But then his writing and thinking took him down an unexpected path. He found himself considering his own basic beliefs and the god, religion, and heaven he wanted. His path led to a god who has the desirable qualities of the Abrahamic god, but without the negative and illogical parts. He describes that god, along with the religion and heaven that would come from him.

Part agnostic analysis, part alternative religion, An Agnostic's Path to God provides many reasons why traditional religions are illogical and then describes god, religion, and heaven the way they should be.

Gary L. Gaines is a retired engineer and manager who has a passion for all things associated with religion. He reveres the Bible and the Quran as much as he does the works of the great humanists.

Gaines spent his career in both the private and public sectors. He worked in a small consulting engineering firm in Dexter, Missouri, for sixteen years before taking a position with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, where he worked for twenty-five years, twenty of which were spent as a regional office director.

Gaines is an Army veteran and one of three children born to Freeman A. and Lula E. Crane Gaines. He has an older brother, Jim, and a younger sister, Sue. He has lived most of his life in southeast Missouri with his wife, Darlene E. Robertson Gaines. They have a son, John Freeman, named after Gaines's father and grandfather.
