An Anglo-Saxon Primer with Grammar, Notes, and Glossary by Henry Sweet is an essential resource for students studying Old English. The primer provides a clear introduction to the grammar and syntax of Anglo-Saxon, offering detailed explanations of word forms, sentence structures, and key linguistic features. Sweet includes exercises, notes, and a glossary to aid understanding, making it accessible for beginners. The work serves as a foundation for reading and interpreting Old English texts, helping learners build a strong grasp of the language’s structure and vocabulary. It remains a valuable tool for anyone studying Anglo-Saxon literature and language.

Henry Sweet (1845–1912) was an influential English philologist, phonetician, and grammarian, known for his pioneering work in Old English and phonetics. Educated at Oxford, Sweet focused on private studies, making significant contributions to Anglo-Saxon dialectology and Old English texts. He published key works like A Handbook of Phonetics (1877) and A Primer of Spoken English (1890), which included early descriptions of received pronunciation. A key figure in language teaching, Sweet also created Current Shorthand. Despite his scholarly achievements, he never received a university professorship. Sweet died in 1912, leaving a legacy in linguistics and phonetics.
