About The Book

An Exmoor Artist - A Creative Journey in Oil, Watercolour, Pastel and Acrylic Painting. This book describes an artistic journey taken by the author since 1995. The star of this book is Exmoor in all its glory; a stunning national park setting including an unspoilt heritage coastline, all straddling the English counties of Devon and Somerset. Local artist Claire Savill captures the peaceful magnificence of the local moorlands as well as familiar beauty spots, picture postcard villages and the wild beauty of Exmoor ponies. Claire's paintings of West Country art will remind those who know this area of happy memories whereas anyone that has yet to visit Exmoor will undoubtedly want to put it on the map during their next visit. This book also celebrates Claire's creative journey from Sussex to Exmoor after meeting, falling in love with and marrying a Somerset wool grader called Brian. This brought her to Exmoor and resulted in a new love affair, this time with the local community and spectacular countryside best illustrated in this handpicked selection of her latest commissions, including a choice of oil, watercolour and acrylic paintings for contrasting effect.

About The Author

Claire Savill was born in Middlesex and spent her early childhood days in Kenya, returning to Sussex for her secondary education. After school she trained in an advertising agency studio where she learned about graphics and typography before adding an aptitude for Apple Mac and computerised design systems to her portfolio of skills. She then broadened her artistic experience further by moving into specialist design services and print-related roles. Claire now lives with her husband and cats near Dulverton, an attractive market town in the very heart of Exmoor. She runs a small design and print business which complements her artistic leanings, taking on commissions as and when time permits. She relishes all sorts of creative challenges, no matter the size of the canvas or the complexity of the commission. During recent years these have included portraits (of humans and animals), landscapes, various sculptures and business websites and logo designs. She also tackles large scale work including a 45ft long permanent backdrop for a model railway in the local Heritage Centre and theatrical scenery and props.
