""An Introduction To The Mortuary Customs Of The North American Indians"" is a book written by C. H. Yarrow that provides a comprehensive overview of the burial practices and funeral customs of the indigenous people of North America. The book covers various tribes and regions, including the Eskimo, the Pueblo, the Navajo, the Sioux, and the Iroquois. Yarrow delves into the different ways in which these tribes prepared their dead for burial, including embalming, cremation, and burial in different types of graves. He discusses the various rituals and ceremonies that accompanied these practices, such as mourning periods, offerings to the spirits, and the use of masks and other ceremonial objects. The book also includes detailed descriptions of the different types of grave goods that were buried with the dead, such as pottery, weapons, and personal items. Yarrow also provides information on the symbolism and meaning behind these objects and their significance in the afterlife. Overall, ""An Introduction To The Mortuary Customs Of The North American Indians"" is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in the history and culture of the indigenous peoples of North America.""Two such mounds have been described already in the county of Perry. Others have been found in various parts of the country. There is one at least in the vicinity of Licking River, not many miles from Newark. There is another on a branch of Hargus's Creek, a few miles to the northeast of Circleville. There were several not very far from the town of Chillicothe. If these mounds were sometimes used as cemeteries of distinguished persons, they were also used as monuments with a view of perpetuating the recollection of some great transaction or event. In the former not more generally than one or two skeletons are found; in the latter none. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
