This is the story of a ten-year friendship that started with a banana and ended with a death. It's about an ordinary man, Edward Mellish, who I can only describe as the most extraordinary person I've even known. Edward filled every day of those around him with love and friendship, until brain cancer claimed him in 1994. It's a love story.

Cheryl J. Weissman, a life-long Chicagoan, has worked with and for nonprofit organizations since April, 1984, when she accepted a position at Planned Parenthood/Chicago and met Edward Mellish. The course of her life changed with that meeting, ultimately providing her a professional path to follow, a journey toward personal fulfillment and a friendship that she will carry with her always.
