Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Literaturwissenschaft - Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, Note: 1,7, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Literaturverfilmungen stellen, bereits seit kurz nach der Vorstellung der ersten "bewegten Bilder" im Jahre 1895 durch die Brüder Lumiere, eine wichtige Schnittstelle zwischen dem Medium "Film" und der literarischen Vorlage, dem "Buch", dar. Gerade zu Beginn der Filmproduktion wurde vielfach auf bekannte Klassiker der Literatur zurückgegriffen. Eine gelungene Literaturverfilmung zu schaffen ist ein herausforderndes und spannendes Unterfangen. So kann der Leser beim Lesen eines Romans seine Fantasie ohne Einschränkungen entfalten und den durch Wörter entstandenen Raum selbst gestalten. Doch versucht nun jemand diesen entstandenen Raum durch einen Film mit seinen eigenen Eindrücken und Bildern zu füllen, wird oft nicht jeder Leser damit zufriedengestellt. Noch wichtiger sind die handelnden, dargestellten Personen. Eine Atmosphäre "nur" mit filmischen Mitteln so darzustellen wie man sie in einer literarischen Vorlage wahrnimmt, bedarf eines gewissen Geschicks. Sind im Roman beispielsweise die Gedanken und Sorgen einer Figur beschrieben, so muss dies in einem Film durch entsprechende Handlungen, Mimik oder Verhalten umgesetzt werden. Oftmals nimmt sich der Regisseur hierfür Freiheiten und Abänderungen heraus, um eine möglichst entsprechende Atmosphäre zu schaffen, wie er sie subjektiv beim Lesen des Romans wahrgenommen hat. Diese Arbeit will dies am Beispiel der "Erschaffungsszene" in Mary Shelleys Roman "Frankenstein oder Der moderne Prometheus" und anhand des Filmes "Frankenstein" von James Whale untersuchen. Die Wahl fiel auf diese Verfilmung, da sie die erste populäre Tonverfilmung des Romans darstellt, die auf einem gleichnamigen Bühnenstück von Peggy Webling basiert.
