About The Book

DefinitionsgemaB handelt es sich bei der Biophysik urn "die Lehre von im lebenden System" bzw. auch urn "die physikalischen Vorgangen Anwendung physikalischer Verfahren und Vorstellungen auf biologi- sche Objekte". A priori liegt damit ein interdisziplinarer Problemkreis vor, der Physiologen, Biologen und Physiker gleichermaBen beschaftigt. In zunehmendem MaBe ergibt sich eine entsprechende Herausforde- rung aber auch fiir Techniker und Ingenieure, z.B. beziiglich der Ent- wicklung unmittelbarer Schnittstellen zwischen technischen und bio- logischen Systemen. Die vorliegende, systematisch gestaltete Einfiihrung in die Ange- wandte Biophysik entstand im Rahmen langjahriger Vorlesungen an der Technischen Universitat Wien. Die Lehrtatigkeit betrifft dabei Studie- rende der Elektro-und Informationstechnik, aber auch der Technischen Physik, die eine Vertiefung im Bereich der Biomedizinischen Technik wahlen. Dies bedeuret eine spezifische Aufbereitung des breiten The- menbereiches fiir diese Horerschaft -sowohl hinsichtlich der gesetzten Voraussetzungen, als auch der Schwerpunktsetzung. Die Gliederung des Stoffes orientiert sich an thematischen Katalogen umfassender Standardwerke der Biophysik. Der Bogen spannt sich damit von der Molekularen Biophysik hin zur Wechselwirkung zwischen Feldern bzw. Strahlen mit biologischen Systemen. Dazwischen liegen die biophysika- lische Analytik und die viele Aspekte umfassende Physik des Nerven- und Muskelsystems. Der Umfang des Textes orientiert sich an einer einfiihrenden Dber- sichtsvorlesung. 1m Sinne eines Kompromisses wird dabei ein breiter Dberblick trotz stark begrenztem Umfang des Textes angestrebt. Somit bleiben wichtige Bereiche -wie die Biomechanik -aufkurze Darstellun- gen reduziert. Eher cler Biochemie zuzurechnende Bereiche -wie die ener- getische Betrachtung chemischer Prozesse -bleiben ausgeklammert.
