This book is a seminal work that explores the intricate relationship between technology, ethics, and the welfare of non-human animals. Edited by Rosalyn W. Berne, this volume brings together leading scholars and practitioners to examine the ethical responsibilities inherent in technological progress and its impact on animal well-being.

Rosalyn W. Berne is the Anne Shirley Carter Olsson Professor of Applied Ethics and chair of the Department of Engineering and Society in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Virginia, USA, and co-directs the Online Ethics Center for Engineering and Science. As an ethics scholar, she explores the intersecting realms of emerging and converging technologies, science fiction and myth, and the links between the human and nonhuman worlds. Her publications include Nanotalk: Conversations with Scientists and Engineers about Ethics, Meaning, and Belief in the Development of Nanotechnology (2006); Waiting in the Silence (2012), a science fiction novel; When the Horses Whisper (2013); Creating Life from Life: Biotechnology and Science Fiction (2014); and Waking to Beauty (2016).
