Um den Herausforderungen des demografischen Wandels begegnen zu können, kommen in der Pflege zunehmend technische Assistenzsysteme zum Einsatz. Doch vor Einführung dieser bislang wenig bekannten AAL-Systeme (Ambient Assisted Living ) muss das Pflegepersonal in deren Anwendung geschult werden. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit soll daher untersucht werden, ob der Robbenroboter PARO als praktisches Anschauungsmaterial für ein AAL-System in der Weiterbildung für Pflegekräfte dienen kann. Ist sein Einsatz sinnvoll, um einen Zugang zu AAL-Technik im Allgemeinen als auch für wenig technikaffine Menschen herzustellen? AAL (Ambient Assisted Living ) steht für intelligente Umgebungen, die sich selbstständig, proaktiv und situationsspezifisch den Bedürfnissen und Zielen des Anwenders anpassen, um ihn im täglichen Leben zu unterstützen. Ein ma geblicher Faktor zur Einführung der AAL-Systeme in Betreuungs- und Pflegeeinrichtungen sowie im häuslichen Umfeld besteht in der Vermittlung von Kenntnissen über ihre Anwendung. Der Roboter PARO ist ein bereits heute existierendes und vereinzelt in der Betreuung von an Demenz erkrankten Menschen eingesetztes, altersgerechtes AAL-System. Er wurde von Takanori Shibata am National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan entwickelt. Es fehlen bislang jedoch Erkenntnisse, ob PARO in der Weiterbildung von Pflegekräften als gutes Beispiel für ein AAL dient und sich somit positiv auf den Erfolg von Schulungen zum Thema AAL in der Pflege auswirken kann. Zur Untersuchung der Fragestellung wurde eine schriftliche Befragung von Pflegekräften einer Wohneinrichtung für beeinträchtigte Menschen mittels eines eigens dafür entwickelten Fragebogens angewandt. Auf Grundlage der Ergebnisse von 118 Befragungsteilnehmern wurden fünf für die Beantwortung der Fragestellung bedeutsame Hypothesen überprüft.
