Auch sollen Parameter identifiziert werden, mithilfe derer die Behandlung von Aphasikern strukturell verbessert werden könnte. Schwerpunkt der Arbeit ist die Differenzierung verschiedener Syndrome sowie einhergehender Symptome der erworbenen Sprachstörung Aphasie und das Aufzeigen von Behandlungsansätzen. Zusätzlich wird das Prinzip der Lateralisierung von Sprachfunktionen im menschlichen Gehirn erläutert, Faktoren einer atypischen Sprachlateralisierung zusammengetragen und Methoden zur Bestimmung der Sprachdominanz diskutiert. Hierzu erfolgt zunächst eine Begriffsdefinition der Krankheit und die Abgrenzung von verwandten Störungsbildern. Anschlie end werden verschiedenartige Aphasieformen differenziert, indem Leitsymptomatiken, Läsionsorte und verbleibende Qualitäten in der Sprachproduktion und dem Sprachverständnis diskutiert und beispielhaft veranschaulicht werden. Weiterhin werden Ansätze zur Behandlung von Aphasien und Bedingungen zur Wirksamkeit dieser zusammengetragen. Darüber hinaus werden funktionelle Lateralisierungen des Gehirns im Zusammenhang mit der Sprachverarbeitung erklärt. Im Rahmen dessen wird beschrieben, welche Hemisphäre üblicherweise für Sprachverarbeitung zuständig ist und welche Faktoren zu einer unüblichen Sprachlateralisierung führen können. Anschlie end werden Methoden zur Erfassung der Sprachlateralisierung diskutiert, insbesondere der Wada-Test und die funktionelle Magnetresonanztomographie. Daraufhin wird die dargebotene Theorie zu Aphasien im Kontext der Diskussion kritisch reflektiert und Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, die zu strukturellen Verbesserungen in der Aphasie-Therapie führen können.
