L' Aquilon de Bavi�re est un roman franco-italien en prose compos� entre 1379 et 1407. Chronologiquement, l'action se situe entre l'exp�dition de Charlemagne en Calabre ( Aspremont et les �v�nements d�crits dans l' Entr�e d'Espagne , la Prise de Pampelune et la Chanson de Roland . Le noyau de l'action est constitu� par une exp�dition des chr�tiens en Afrique du Nord et en Perse. Le texte a �t� publi� en 1982 en deux volumes de plus de 900 pages (Beih. ZrP 188/89).

Ce n'est qu'apr�s presque 25 ans que le troisi�me volume de cette �dition est pr�t. Il se compose de quatre parties. Dans le "Commentaire litt�raire", l' Aquilon est situ� dans la tradition �pique franco-italienne et interpr�t� dans le contexte socio-politique de l'Italie septentrionale de l'�poque. Le "Commentaire linguistique" fournit une description de la langue du texte dans les domaines grapho-phon�tique, morphosyntaxique et lexicologique et essaie de d�gager les proc�d�s de cr�ation et de m�lange employ�s. Le "Lexique" contient tous les mots qui ne sont pas vraiment fran�ais; en m�me temps il veut �tre plus qu'un glossaire et fournit aussi une interpr�tation lexicologique. L'"Index des noms" finalement r�unit les attestations de tous les noms propres (noms de personne, noms g�ographiques). Ce volume constitue donc un important instrument de travail.
