About The Book

The main factors in Astrology are three:the signs of the Zodiac, the Seven Planets, and the Houses of Heaven. In Medical Astrology there is yet another factor, which is equally important and without which medical Astrology cannot be understood. This factor consists of the four elementary Qualities, Heat, Cold, Dryness and Moisture; which correspond with the four elements, Fire, Earth, Air and Water; with the four humours, Yellow bile, Black Bile, Blood and Phlegm; and with many other things. Since there are Twelve signs of the Zodiac, Seven Planets, and twelve Houses of Heaven, It will be casily seen that the merely numerical combinations of any one of these with the others are indefinitely multitudinous; and when it is known that each may be combined with the others in many different ways the complications become too great for the human intellect to follow.

About The Author

Charles Arthur Mercier FRCP FRCS (1851 – 1919) was a British psychiatrist and leading expert on forensic psychiatry and insanity. He was born on 21 June 1851. He studied medicine at the University of London where he graduated. He worked at Buckinghamshire County Asylum in Stone, near Aylesbury. He became the Assistant Medical Officer at Leavesden Hospital and at the City of London Asylum in Dartford, Kent. In 1894 Mercier was secretary of a committee of the Medico-Psychological Association. He published articles in the Journal of Mental Science. He joined the Medico-Legal Society in 1905, and became the president of the Medico-Psychological Association in 1908. Mercier has been described as a pioneer in the field of forensic psychiatry. In 1916, Mercier criticized vegetarianism in The Lancet journal. Mercier suggested that vegetarians had an unbalanced mind and "we should expect, therefore, to find among vegetarians an undue proportion of insane persons.
