About The Book

As developing nations across the globe struggle to find effective means of reaching out to their hungry , they need knowledge about alternative ways of addressing this issue. It is useful to know how other nations are addressing this problem and the level of success achieved. More cost effective and efficient systems need to be looked into. It is difficult to find all the relevant information about food security schemes in one place. It is even more difficult to find such information about many nations in just one source. This book is prepared as a reference book for the stake holders interested in the policy analysis of food security schemes. Each chapter gives relevant food security indicators for that nation, the economic history and its developmental context, and the past as well as current food security schemes. Simple statistical tools like mean and standard deviation, regression and paired t test are used to interpret the data.

About The Author

Alka Parikh, PhD in Development Economics from Cornell University , USA, is working as an Associate Professor at D.A. Institute of Information and Communication T echnology (DAIICT). In addition to this book, she has also conducted a detailed field study in Maharashtra on food security situation, and some small surveys on the issue. She has also documented some experiments to address the food security. Alka Parikh has experience of working with academic, corporate and NGO sectors. At present, she is a trustee for an NGO and a joint director of Sarvang Utkarsh, a health mutual. She has also been Head of Center for Disaster Management and Associate Co ordinator for Center for Human Development at Mumbai University in the past. The inf ormation and data for the nations have been compiled by 10 B. Tech. students of DAIICT. Each student compiled details for one nation. The students undertook this work as their summer internship in MayJuly, 2014.
