Fachhochschule Köln, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Eine Diplomarbeit über das Thema Internet kann lediglich ein "Snapshot", eine Momentaufnahme eines bestimmten Zeitpunktes sein, denn der technische Fortschritt im Internet schreitet enorm schnell voran. Die hier vorliegende Diplomarbeit versteht sich vor diesem Hintergrund als Bestandsaufnahme zur Jahresmitte 1996. Das aktuelle und sehr spannende Praxis-Thema "AUDIO ON DEMAND IM WORLD WIDE WEB" zwang mich, technisch gesehen an vorderster Front zu kämpfen. Daraus folgte, da keine Literatur im herkömmlichen Sinne benutzt werden konnte. Sämtliche Recherchen in Bibliotheken blieben erfolglos. Es gibt zu diesem speziellen Thema noch keine Lehrbücher. Daher war ich auf aktuelle Informationen im Internet angewiesen. Mit der Hilfe einiger Suchmaschinen im Internet, permanenter Neuanfragen, unzähliger Emails und "face-to-face"-Kommunikationen mit Kollegen und technischen Support-Abteilungen der Hersteller dieser Audio-Services, entstand nach und nach das technische Gerüst für mein Pilotprojekt beim WDR. Der grö te Teil der Informationen, auf die ich mich berufe, stammt aus dem Internet selbst. Andere Quellen waren Fachzeitschriften und Artikel in Magazinen, bzw. Tageszeitungen. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es jedoch, dem "interessierten Laien" verständlich zu schildern, was ich beim WDR in meiner Tätigkeit als Praktikant aufbaute. Dieses Ziel habe ich dann erreicht, wenn der Leser am Ende der Lektüre einen Eindruck über das Internet und die eingesetzte Audio-Technologie erhalten hat. Technische Details werden dort erklärt, wo sie zum Verständnis allgemeingültiger, verständlicher Modelle und übergeordneter Konzepte notwendig sind. Nicht näher erläutert werden Details, die vom Gesamtzusammenhang ablenken, wie z.B. die Belegungen der Portadressen unter UNIX und der detaillierte Aufb
