Ihnen mochte ich an Hand einer Reihe neuer, groBtenteils aus der technischen Praxis stammen- der Aufgaben zeigen, daB selbst der durchschnittlich Begabte - so- fern er nur mit wirklichem Interesse und Lerneifer bei der Sache is- keine Scheu zu haben braucht vor der dem Anfanger gewiB nicht leicht fallenden Anwendung der verhaltnismaBig einfachen Lehren der Mechanik auf bestimmte praktische Fragestellungen; ja, daB es gerade die dabei auftretenden, selbstandig zu uberwindenden Denkschwierig- keiten sind, die erst jene reizvolle Spannung, jenes hohere als nur rein praktische Interesse erzeugen, ohne das die Losung einer sol chen, auch noch so interessant erscheinenden Aufgabe zu einer recht trocke- nen Angelegenheit herabsinken wiirde. Als Techniker, der selbst lange Zeit in der Praxis tatig war, habe ich bei der Auswahl der Aufgaben auch an diejenigen, im Berufsleben stehenden Ingenieure gedacht, die sich von der Technischen Mechanik angezogen fuhlen oder die sich auf Grund eigener Erfahrung davon uberzeugen konnten, welch scharfes und wertvolles Werkzeug sie in der Hand des wissenschaftlich grundlich vorgebildeten Ingenieurs zu sein vermag. Ihnen diirften diejenigen Aufgaben, die groBere An- spruche an die Denkfahigkeit stellen, manche willkommene Anregung bieten.
