Mit der zunehmenden Beliebtheit vollwandiger Konstruktionen im Stahlbau stellte sich die Forderung nach einer moglichst genauen Er- fassung der Ausbeulerscheinungen von ebenen Blechen. Auch der moderne Schiff- und Flugzeugbau verlangt dringend das eingehende Studium dieses Stabilitatsproblemes. Es ist daher nicht verwunderlich, daB sich eine groBe Anzahl von Forschern mit dem Instabilwerden von Blechen unter gewissen Beanspruchungen befaBte. Die diesbezugliche Literatur ist auBerst umfangreich, weit verstreut und in den verschie- densten Sprachen abgefaBt. Es drangte sich daher der Gedanke auf, das bisher Erreichte festzuhalten und dem Konstrukteur in einer ihm verstandlichen Form zu ubermitteln. Das vorliegende Buch legt in- folgedessen nicht in erster Linie Wert auf die moglichst eingehende Darstellung komplizierter Theorien, sondern mochte vielmehr dem Praktiker als Rustzeug bei der Losung seiner Aufgaben dienen. Urn jedoch den Geltungsbereich und die Grenzen der angewandten Formeln zu erkennen, sind auch fur den Ingenieur gewisse theoretische Kennt- nisse unerlaBlich. Die Losung von Beulproblemen verlangt im allgemeinen erhebliche mathematische Kenntnisse, besonders wenn allgemeine Losungen an- gestrebt werden. Fur die numerische Auswertung spezieller Probleme stehen dagegen dem Ingenieur in der Differenzenrechnung und vor allem im baustatischen LOsungsverfahren Methoden zur Verfugung, die, auf gelaufigen Prinzipien aufbauend, fur ihn leicht verstandlich und im Rechenaufwand noch ertraglich sind. Noch nicht restlos abgeklart ist das Ausbeulen im plastischen Be- reich. Die Schwierigkeiten beginnen schon bei der Annahme der Plasti- zitatshypothese. Da mehrere solche zur Verfugung stehen, sind auch verschiedene Beultheorien fUr den plastischen Bereich moglich und auch aufgestellt worden.
