Eleven-year-old Bommer resents being stuck watching his younger cousin Laura when there are only two weeks of summer left before school begins. Then he sees her take the hand of a winged red-haired girl and disappear from King's Island, in Limerick, Ireland and a thrilling adventure through Fairy Lakes-home to fairies, leprechauns, and other magical beings-begins.

With the help of a friendly leprechaun, Bommer and his two best friends, Kev and Tighe, step through a portal to the Fairy Lakes, where the fairies are fiercely protective of their own domain and the fairy queen has no sense of humor, to rescue Laura from her kidnapper.

Does she actually need rescuing?

Bommer is sure she would never leave her family and everyone she knew behind if the fairy wasn't controlling her. Kev and Tighe agree. Besides, some of the leprechaun's wives and daughters have also disappeared.
