Dieses Buch soll ein Lehrbuch fiir das meist als eher trocken empfundene Fachgebiet der elektronischen Bauelemente sein. Nach einem kurzen Abri der passiven Bauele- mente Widerstand, Kondensator und Spule werden die heute meistverwendeten aktiven Bauelemente beschrieben. Es sind dies die aus dem Halbleiterwerkstoff Silizium beste- henden Dioden, bipolaren und MOS-Feldeffekt-Transistoren, die als Einzelbauelemente oder als Bestandteile integrierter Schaltungen die derzeitige Welt der Elektronik be- stimmen. Bauelemente aus anderen Halbleitermaterialien werden nicht besprochen. Zwar erfiillen sie eine Reihe wichtiger Aufgaben z.B. in der Optoelektronik und der Mikrowellentechnik, doch würde ihre Behandlung den Rahmen dieses Buches sprengen. Ebenso wird die Physik der Halbleiter nur knapp und soweit erläutert, wie es nach mei- ner Meinung erforderlich ist, um die Funktion und den Aufbau der Bauelemente zu verstehen. Das Ziel dieses Buches ist es zum einen, aus einem einfachen physikalischen Verständ- nis heraus Gleichungen zu entwickeln, die die Funktion der Bauelemente beschreiben, und einen Zusammenhang zwischen der elektrischen Funktion und den baulichen Eigen- schaften herzustellen. Dazu gehört auch die Beschreibung der wichtigsten Parameter, die fiir die Modellierung der Bauelemente in Schaltungsanalyseprogrammen, z.B. SPIeE, benötigt werden. Zum zweiten soll das Verhalten der Bauelemente in Grundanwendun- gen wie Gleichrichten, Schalten und Verstärken erläutert werden. Die Gleichungen zur Beschreibung der Bauelemente werden aus eindimensionalen Mo- dellen heraus entwickelt. An einigen Stellen werden anschauliche Vergleiche benutzt, ohne jedoch auf schlüssige Begründungen zu verzichten.
