Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: In der Theorie fehlt es nicht an Schlagworten, die auf einen effizienten Umgang mit der Ressource Wissen abzielen: „BI", „Organisatorische Wissensbasis", „Knowledge Worker", „Organizational Memory", „Organisationales Lernen", „Wissenskultur", „Wissensdatenbanken" und viele mehr. Die in der Theorie und Praxis immer wieder genannten wenigen Unternehmen, die das Thema „Wissensmanagement" zumindest partiell erfolgreich angegangen sind, wie z.B. Skandia, 3M, HP sowie viele der gro en Unternehmensberatungen, zeigen, dass das Lösungspotenzial dieser Konzepte in der Praxis noch nicht umfassend entwickelt ist. Die Motivation für die vorliegende Arbeit ist in der Diskrepanz zwischen Bedeutung, Forderungen und Problematisierungen auf der einen Seite und den tatsächlich in der Praxis anzutreffenden Lösungen, d.h. dem tatsächlichen Nutzen auf der anderen Seite zu sehen. Die Hauptzielsetzung der Arbeit liegt somit in der Einschätzung und der Beurteilung der Bedeutung und des Nutzens von BI. Um diesem Ziel gerecht zu werden, muss sowohl die konzeptionelle als auch die anwenderbezogene Perspektive genauer betrachtet und erforscht werden. Aus diesem Grund entwickelt sich die Zielsetzung der Arbeit aus folgenden vier Teilzielsetzungen: Erste Teilzielsetzung ist die Herleitung und Darstellung der theoretischen und begrifflichen Grundlagen, um ein fundiertes Grundverständnis bezüglich der Thematik zu entwickeln. Das zweite Teilziel ist die Ermittlung grundsätzlich möglicher Nutzenaspekte von BI, indem die Bedeutung und der Nutzen angesprochener Themen- und Funktionsbereiche näher untersucht wird. Dritte Teilzielsetzung ist die empirische Untersuchung der Bedeutung der Nutzenaspekte aus Anbietersicht sowie die systematische Darstellung und Erläuterung konkreter BI-Lösungen. Viertes Teilziel ist die Untersuchung der tatsächlichen Nutzenaspekte von BI. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Ergebnisse zweier in der betrieblichen Praxis durchgeführten Fallstudien darges
