Einleitung Annähernd 1600 Jahre ist es her, seit Mohammed um das Jahr 610 seine erste Offenbarung erlebte. Innerhalb eines Jahrhunderts wurden seine Anhänger zu einer Weltmacht, die sich in den folgenden Jahrhunderten immer weiter ausdehnte. Dadurch verdrängten sie das Christentum aus dessen angestammten Gebieten wie Palästina und Nordafrika und drangen über Sizilien in Spanien, also in Europa ein. Gute 700 Jahre herrschten die Muslime in Spanien. Während dieser Zeit kam es zwischen Muslimen und Christen immer wieder zu kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen, auf der mal die eine Seite mal die andere den Sieg davon trug. Man befasste sich sodann innerhalb des Christentums auch inhaltlich mit dem Islam, wobei man nicht sehr objektiv vorging. Hauptziel war es den Gegner durch und durch zu kennen, um dessen Theologie als christliche Häresie zu brandmarken. Viele Aussagen wurden auch ohne gro e Kenntnis gemacht, um die Vormachtstellung des Christentums zu untermauern und den Islam zu verunglimpfen. Dies schürte natürlich allerhand Vorurteile, die durch spätere Autoren übernommen oder sogar noch verstärkt wurden. So verwundert es nicht, dass der Islam von der westlichen Welt bis in unsere Tage hinein als eine Furcht einflössende Religion angesehen wird. "Kein Mensch hat Angst vor dem Buddhismus oder Hinduismus; gegenüber dem Islam ist Angst hingegen die normale Haltung"1 und in Medienberichten über arabische Länder herrschen Bilder von Gewalt und von Terrorakten vor.
