Der Band vereinigt in loser Form funf zwischen 1995 und Fruhjahr 1999 entstandene "Beitrage zu altpersischen Inschriften", die meistenteils in direktem Zusammenhang mit einer Neuausgabe der altpersischen Inschriften von Nqas-i Rustam und Persepolis im Rahmen des "Corpus Inscriptionum Iranicarum" stehen. Kapitel I uber "Die Throntrager-Beischriften der Graber I und V", ursprunglich gedacht als Erganzung zu einer archaologischen Beschreibung der beiden Achaimenidengraber oberhalb der Persepolis-Terrasse, bietet eine detaillierte Dokumentation der kurzen Beischriften nicht nur von Grab V, sondern auch derjenigen des Dareios-Grabes, mit dem sie in engem Zusammenhang stehen. Die Einzeldiskussion erfasst neben der sprachlichen Seite sowie der Schriftform der altpersischen Fassungen auch, allerdings weniger ausfuhrlich, die elamischen und babylonischen Teile. Von epigraphischer Seite ergeben sich dabei Indizien fur eine Zuweisung des jungeren Grabes an Artaxerxes III. Kapitel II legt "Marginalien zu den fruhesten altpersischen Inschriften aus Persepolis DPd/DPe" vor, die aus der eingehenden Uberprufung dieser Texte entstanden sind. Sie klaren verschiedene Details und fuhren zu genauerem Verstandnis einzelner Passagen. Ahnliches gilt in Weiterfuhrung zweier anderenorts erschienener Aufsatze fur Kapitel III mit der Besprechung epigraphisch-exegetischer Probleme von Dareio' Grabinschrift DNb und deren Replika-Text XPl. Eine erste vollstandige epigraphisch-philologische Behandlung der altpersischen Gewichts-Inschriften (wiederum unter Einschluss der Parallelversionen) bietet Kapitel IV; dabei wird auch der Name der Gewichtseinheit selbst hinsichtlich seiner Lesung und Lautung, der Formenerklarung und der Etymologie untersucht. Den Hauptteil des Bandes bildet Kapitel V uber "Das spatachaimenidische Altpersische" mit einer genauen Betrachtung der fehlerhaften Sprachformen der altpersischen Inschriften v.a. von Artaxerxes II. und III. (samt den erst zu jener Zeit entstandenen Texten von - vorgeblich - Ariaramnes und Arsames). Es werden samtliche Texte in Transliteration, Umschrift und Ubersetzung prasentiert, und, soweit notig, kommentiert. Die anschliessende Bilanz versucht das fur jene Spatzeit charakteristische Sprachmaterial in systematischer Ordnung vorzulegen.
