Vom 29. 3. bis 3. 4. 1976 fand in Duisburg das Symposion über Geometrische Algebra statt, zu dem sich Vertreter der verschiedenen Forschungsrichtungen aus dem Bereich der Grundlagen der Geometrie und verwandter Gebiete trafen, um über den Stand ihrer Arbeiten vorzutragen und zu diskutieren. Da die moderne geometrische Grundlagenforschung weitreichende formale Verfügbarkeit und Anwendbarkeit ihrer Ergebnisse anstrebt, und so die axio- matische Analyse der Anschauung betreibt, um vielen mathematischen Prob- lemkreisen die geometrische Intuition zugänglich zu machen, bedarf sie stets auch algebraischer Hilfe und Entsprechung. Daher wurde der Terminus "Geometrische Algebra" als die den verschiedenen speziellen Zielrichtungen gemeinsame Methode der heutigen Grundlagen der Geometrie zum Leitmotiv des Symposions gewählt.
