Das Buch arbeitet die tragenden Grundgedanken des Kondiktionenrechts heraus und entwickelt daraus die für das Verständnis der Materie relevanten Grundsätze. Sein Ziel ist es, Studenten eine Orientierungshilfe zu geben und es ihnen zu ermöglichen, sich mit überschaubarem Aufwand auf Klausuren und mündliche Prüfungen in den Examina vorzubereiten. Die Neuauflage wurde aktualisiert, neue Gesetzgebung wie die Zahlungsdiensterichtlinie und Rechtsprechung wurden eingearbeitet.

Hans Josef Wieling stammte aus Essen, studierte und wurde promoviert in Münster und habilitierte sich in München. Von 1977 bis 2004 hatte er den Lehrstuhl für Bürgerliches Recht, Römisches Recht und Privatrechtsgeschichte der Neuzeit an der Universität Trier inne. Von 1988 bis 2000 war er zudem Richter am Oberlandesgericht Koblenz. 1994 wurde er zum doctor honoris causa an der Universität Miskolc, Ungarn, ernannt.

Thomas Finkenauer wurde in Bad Kreuznach geboren. Nach einem Studium der Rechtswissenschaft und Geschichte wurde er in Trier promoviert und habilitierte sich dort. Seit 2005 ist er Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Bürgerliches Recht, Römisches Recht und Europäisches Privatrecht an der Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen.
