Die daraus resultierenden Veränderungen hatten nie auf individueller und organisationaler sowie auch auf gesellschaftspolitischer und wirtschaftlicher Ebene einen höheren Stellenwert als heute. Die Auswirkungen auf den Arbeitsmarkt im Allgemeinen und im Speziellen für die Pflegebranche sind gravierend. Denn dem aktuellen sowie zukünftigen Pflegekräftemangel kann nur mit einer dualen Strategie begegnet werden, d.h. durch "Nachwuchs"-Akquise und durch einen möglichst langen Verbleib von älteren Beschäftigten im Berufsbild der Pflege. Im Fokus dieser Arbeit und der durchgeführten Befragung stehen ältere Beschäftigte im Tätigkeitsfeld der ambulanten Pflege. Zum einen sollen detailliertere, auf das Individuum bezogenere Einblicke in Motivationen zur Berufswahl und Berufsverläufe (inklusive Unter-brechungszeiten) gewonnen werden. Möglicherweise lassen sich so eventuell sogar Rückschlüsse, zu dem was ältere Beschäftigte in diesem Beruf hält, ziehen. Weiterhin soll in diesem Zusammenhang ermittelt werden - da in der ambulanten Pflege grundsätzliche Kranken- und Altenpflegerinnen anzutreffen sind - warum sich ausgebildete Krankenpflegerinnen und auch vormals in der stationären Pflege tätige Altenpflegerinnen im Berufsverlauf für das Tätigkeitsfeld der ambulanten Pflege entscheiden. Eine weitere Hypothese ergibt sich aus den grundsätzlichen Unterschieden der Arbeitgeber (privatwirtschaftliche vs. Wohlfahrtsträger) innerhalb der Stichproben und zwar wird vermutet, dass die Arbeitsbedingungen der Beschäftigten bei den privatwirtschaftlichen, ambulanten Pflegediensten schlechter sind.
