[heilsarmee.de] Diese Worte lie William Booth, Mitbegründer der Heilsarmee, in seiner letzten öffentlichen Rede in der Royal Albert Hall in London im Jahre 1912 verlauten. Die Heilsarmee kämpft. Sie kämpft gegen das Böse und für das Gute, kämpft im Namen Gottes und hilft Frauen, Kindern, Sozialschwachen und jenen, die durch ihre Sünden glauben, dem Teufel geweiht zu sein. Unternimmt man einen Spaziergang durch die Freiburger Innerstadt, so kommt man kaum umhin, einem Repräsentanten der Heilsarmee zu begegnen, welcher ruhig hinter seinem Stand steht, in seiner dunklen Uniform mit den ebenso dunklen Knöpfen und roten Aufsätzen und darauf wartet, dass die vorbeilaufenden Menschen ihn anhören. Doch was ist die Heilsarmee überhaupt? Welche Geschichte verbirgt sich hinter ihr und was ist ihr Ziel? Hermann Broch lässt der Heilsarmee in seiner Romantrilogie "Die Schlafwandler" besonders im 3. Teil eine gro e Rolle zukommen. Allerdings scheint dies nicht von Anfang an seine Absicht gewesen zu sein. Wie kommt es also, dass der Schriftsteller, Dichter und Philosoph, der in der Erstausgabe seines Romans der Heilsarmee keine weitere Beachtung schenkte, nach der Überarbeitung seines Werkes dem Heilsarmeemädchen aus Berlin ganze Kapitel widmet?
