Suffering a massive dissecting anyeurism in 2014, and after working in a high-stress job for over twenty years, Lombard sought to find a relaxing, non-work related hobby, to clear his mind and bring his blood pressure down to a manageable level. One of the things that Lombard realized early in life was that he had a gift for writing. Both he and his wife Lisa are insatiable readers, owning a library of books numbering in the thousands. Deciding to do something special for his wife, Lombard decided to write a novel for his wife, but not tell her about it until he completed it. After writing several chapters, the thought occurred to Lombard that his wife might not like the book, and he would have spent countless hours writing something she wouldn't enjoy. Searching for an app on his smart phone, Lombard downloaded a text to speech program that would read his book back to him. This would help him hear what the book sounded like from a third party. While traveling out of town, Lombard plugged his phone into the stereo and played the first chapter for his wife and two adult boys. Not telling them who the author was, the family listened with great interest. Doing everything he could to stay at least a chapter ahead of the family listening to his book, within six months, the complete book was listened to. Lisa was determined to know the author, and demanded that Lombard pull up the book info online, in front of everyone, while eating at a restaurant. Finally coming clean that he was the author, it took several minutes for the family to believe that Lombard had written the book himself. Now that the first book was completed, everyone is pushing Lombard to write a sequel. In Lombard's words, "Betrothed was intended to be the first book of a trilogy. Since it seems that the first book went over so well, I'm determined to finish the trilogy, then move on to other genres of fiction."
