Wie sehr das Thema Terrorismus mit Emotionen, im Speziellen von Angst und Verunsicherung, besetzt ist, zeigt unter anderem die Medienberichterstattung und gesellschaftliche Debatte um die Rückkehrenden aus dem Dschihad. Die deutschen Sicherheitsbehörden registrierten 2017 insgesamt 910 Deutsche, die als Kämpfende in den Irak und nach Syrien zogen. Wer sind diese Menschen, die zu so scheinbar Unmöglichem fähig sind? Müssen diese Menschen nicht psychisch krank sein, um solch mörderische Terrorattentate begehen zu können? Um diese Personen zu deradikalisieren und wieder in die deutsche Gesellschaft zu integrieren, ist es wichtig zu verstehen, was sie ursprünglich fortgetrieben hat. Hierzu möchte die vorliegende Arbeit einen Teil beitragen.
