The book is an exploration of the intricate human dynamics shaping the performance of private sector banks in the North-East region of India. The motivation stemmed from an intellectual curiosity about the unique challenges faced by the workforce in this part of the country. The competency frameworks operate within the banking sector, especially in the context of rapid digitization, increasing customer demands, and regional disparities in infrastructure and financial awareness, which has been a much-needed area of investigation. The research draws heavily from real voices—branch managers, clerical staff, HR professionals—who, despite demanding schedules, extended their cooperation with honesty and warmth. As this work transitions from a thesis to a published volume, I hope it inspires further academic inquiry into regional human resource ecosystems and prompts institutions and policymakers to reimagine competency development as a tool for inclusive and sustainable progress.
Debanjalee Chakravorty is currently serving in the Department of Management at the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati. She holds a Ph.D. from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Meghalaya, and obtained an MBA from Assam University, Silchar. With over 12 years of dedicated experience in academia, she has previously worked as a Guest Faculty at ICFAI University, Meghalaya, and NEHU, Tura Campus. She has also held a full-time faculty position at Gurucharan College, Silchar. Dr. Chakravorty has contributed to the field through the publication of five research papers and has actively participated in various national and international conferences. Her academic journey reflects a strong commitment to teaching, research, and the development of management education. Jaynal Ud-din Ahmed completed his M. Com (Accounting & Finance), Ph.D., and a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M). He has completed successfully four sponsored major research projects. Prof. Ahmed has published around five dozen research papers in refereed journals (Scopus indexed, Web of Science, UGC care listed, SCI indexed, ProQuest, etc) besides thirteen research-based books. He has also edited sixteen books to his credit. He has presented research papers and delivered lectures as a resource person in various international and national-level seminars and conferences. Prof. Ahmed is the Director and founder Chairman of the North-Eastern Management Association. He is devotedly involved in various socio-economic and research institutions in India and abroad and has been actively engaged in teaching and research for over twenty years. Dr. Ahmed has worked in various administrative capacities at the university throughout his career. Prof. Ahmed has been involved in guiding doctoral-level research scholars, and twelve scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his supervision. He started his teaching career at M.C. D College, Sonai, Silchar, Assam in 1999, subsequently, he joined as a lecturer at Umshyrpi College, Shillong in 2002 and joined as Assistant Professor in Indian Institute of Science and Management, Ranchi in 2005 and later on, he joined as Reader at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in 2006. At present, he is holding the position of a Professor in the Department of Management at North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, Meghalaya, India.
