Higher education in the United States is under assault from many directions. In "Beyond the Ivory Tower," the author examines the environment in which postsecondary faculty, staff, and administrators find themselves: crowed by new actors, expanded missions, new rules, new governance, new expectations creating a new, strange world.

After pursuing a twenty-career in business and computer networking, author William Browning, embarked on a second career, in higher education. He began that career as a community college instructor and quickly moved to other sectors of higher education. He was also quickly promoted from instructor, program manager, department chair and eventually Dean of Academics. He has worked in the community college, state university, non-profit and for-profit sectors and was engaged in the dynamic environment described. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University; pursued a masters of business administration at New York University and the University of Phoenix. He received a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Florida. He also graduated from the University of Florida's Community College Executive Leadership Program. His also pursued a research doctorate in Higher Education Administration at Florida. Mr. Browning lives near Tampa, Florida with his wife and a large extended family.
