Eine Methode, mit der die ganzheitliche Wertschöpfung von Gebäuden in der Praxis digital zur Anwendung kommen kann, wird als Building Information Modeling (BIM) bezeichnet.

Bim findet derzeit primär in der Planung und Ausführung von Bauprojekten Anwendung. Zunehmend rückt ebenfalls der Mehrwert der Nutzung von BIM im Facility Management (FM) in den Fokus.

Das Buch thematisiert die Definition der Anforderungen an BIM-Modelle zum zielgerichteten Einsatz im lebenszyklusübergreifenden FM. Dabei bilden die operativen Instandhaltungsprozesse den Ausgangspunkt. Die FM-basierten Datenkataloge dienen Bauherren, FM-Dienstleistern, Architekten und Ingenieuren zur zielgerichteten Erstellung der BIM-Modelle zur Übernahme in die Betriebsphase.

Nach sieben Jahren im operativen Facility Management arbeitet Laura Beck derzeit als Principal Consultant in der Strategie-, FM- und IT-Beratung. Sie entwickelte im Rahmen ihres berufsbegleitenden Masterstudiums an der Ostfalia Hochschule - Fakultät Versorgungstechnik einen Datenanforderungskatalog zum zielgerichteten Einsatz von lebenszyklusübergreifenden BIM-Modellen in allen drei Ebenen des Facility Management.
