Dieter Liepsch studierte und promovierte an der TU München. Nach Industrietätigkeiten bei Siemens und Brown Boveri, heute ABB, habilitierte er in Biofluidmechanik an der Technischen Universität München. Von 1989 bis 2008 war er Professor für Strömungsmechanik an der Hochschule München und Dozent für Biofluidmechanik an der TU München. Seit 2008 ist er Dozent für Fluidmechanik an der Hochschule München.
