Diese zielt darauf ab Hypothesen zu generieren und "den subjektiven Sinn, den Personen mit ihrem Verhalten verbinden", objektiv zu analysieren. Dies geschieht auf der Basis bedeutungsgenerierender Regeln. Die Qualitative Forschung ist auf das Verstehen gerichtet und bedient sich nicht-standardisierter Verfahren. Zur Erhebung dienen meist Texte, Bilder oder Protokolle, welche im Anschluss einer interpretativen Bedeutungsanalyse unterzogen werden und in einer analytischen Beschreibung enden. Fritz Schütze entwickelte für das narrative Interview ein Auswertungsverfahren, welches unter der Bezeichnung Narrationsanalyse bekannt ist. Diese Hausarbeit zielt darauf ab einen Überblick über die Biographieanalyse zu geben und gliedert sich in drei Teile. Im ersten Teil werden erst verschiedene Begrifflichkeiten zum Thema geklärt, die einen Einstieg in die Thematik schaffen sollen. Dazu werden Texte von Fritz Schütz, Inhalte des Seminars zur Biographieanalyse und die Vorlesungsskripte zur Qualitativen Forschung von Prof. Dr. R. Kreitz hinzugezogen. Im zweiten Teil wird auf die Prozessstrukturen und Kognitive Figuren des Stehgreiferzählens eingegangen. So soll ein tieferes Verständnis darüber geschaffen werden, was es bei einer Narrationsanalyse zu beachten gilt. Nach der theoretischen Einführung in die Thematik erfolgt im dritten Teil dieser Hausarbeit eine strukturelle Beschreibung anhand eines Segments aus dem narrativen Interview "Zora". Es geht darum mehr als das oberflächlich deutbare zu erkennen.
