Die Begrifflichkeiten von Biopolitik und Biomacht gehen dabei auf Michel Foucault zurück und bezeichnen Machttechniken, die sich auf die Regulierung der Bevölkerung hinsichtlich Fortpflanzung, Gesundheitszustand und Sterblichkeit konzentrieren. Einleitend stelle ich Michel Foucaults Theorie einer Transformation von Machtstrukturen "Recht über den Tod und Macht zum Leben" vor, welche als theoretische Grundlage zum Verständnis des Aufkommens von Biomacht fungiert. Diesem folgt eine kurze Darstellung Giorgio Agambens "Theorie des nackten Lebens", in welcher Agamben Foucaults Begrifflichkeiten der Biomacht aufgreift und sie um den Begriff des "blo en Lebens" erweitert. Agambens Theorie eröffnet neben Foucault eine alternative Betrachtungsweise auf die Funktionsmechanismen von Biopolitik. Während Michel Foucault Biomacht als einen dauerhaft existenten Kontrollmechanismus etabliert, koppelt Agamben Biomacht an den politischen Ausnahmezustand. Der Hauptteil skizziert die Veränderungen, die Tod und Sterbeprozesse seit dem Aufkommen einer Biomacht erfahren haben. Dies schlie t eine immer extremer ausschlagende Ambivalenz der Sichtbarkeit des Todes in unserem Alltag ein. Tägliche Todesnachrichten und -zahlen einerseits - unbedingtes Verbergen von Sterbeverläufen im Alltag andererseits. Betrachtet wird die Wandlung des Sterbens hin zu einem Tod, der im Hinblick auf die aktuelle demografische Entwicklung und die weltpolitischen Geschehnisse durchaus als ein biopolitischer Regulationsmechanismus angesehen werden kann. An dieser Stelle wird ein Abschnitt die Parallelen zur Sexualitätsdebatte der 1960er-Jahre erläutern, um herauszustellen, wie der Diskurs "Tod" den Diskurs "Sex" in der Geschichte auf politischer Ebene abgel
