Kryptowährungen werden immer populärer und so erregte der Bitcoin in den letzten Monaten gro e mediale Aufmerksamkeit. Es ist unklar, ob er jemals den Anforderungen einer Währung gerecht werden und sich als digitale Währung durchsetzen wird. Seine drastische Kursentwicklung in jüngster Vergangenheit und die hohe Volatilität schreiben ihm eher die Rolle einer spekulativen Investitionsalternative zu. Vorangehende Forschung zeigt, dass eine schlechte Wirtschaftsentwicklung die Adaption von Bitcoin begünstigt. Auf solchen Märkten entwickelte sich die Kryptowährung Bitcoin zu einem akzeptierten Zahlungsmittel oder alternativen Wertaufbewahrungsmittel. Ein weiteres relevantes Thema ist der individuelle Kenntnisstand über die Eigenschaften der Blockchain und den darauf basierenden Kryptowährungen. Für die Untersuchung wird ein 2 x 4 faktorielles Zwischensubjektdesign gewählt. Die UV1 ist ein informatives Video (Kryptowährungen und Blockchain, Kontrollgruppe). Die UV2 ist die Induktion von Inflationserwartungen (steigend, fallend, gleichbleibend, Kontrollgruppe). Die Probanden werden zunächst aufgefordert mit einem festgelegten Betrag eine Investition zu tätigen und müssen sich dabei zwischen Bitcoin, einem Aktienpaket, Gold und Immobilienanteilen (AV1) entscheiden. Im zweiten Schritt werden die Probanden gebeten eine beliebige Summe eines festgelegten Betrags in Bitcoin zu investieren (AV2). Es konnte ein signifikanter Haupteffekt der UV1 auf die investierte Summe in Bitcoin nachgewiesen werden.
