When Harry is sent to India for military service, Jane follows him there disguised as a man. She joins the army and becomes a skilled soldier, fighting alongside Harry in battles against rebels.Throughout the novel, Jane faces numerous challenges and obstacles, including racism, sexism, and the dangers of war. Despite these difficulties, she remains determined to prove herself and to fight for what she believes in.Black But Comely is a historical novel that explores themes of race, gender, and identity.
