Crafted as part of the 'Championship' series of sporting books, this 1906 manual explores the art of boxing as practiced by the military during the period. It is a great example of 'Transitional Boxing' where the gloved era has recently taken over from the Prize Ring format.

The author, one Captain W. Edgeworth Johnstone, a former English Heavyweight Champion showcases the necessary skills, attributes and training methodologies to succeed.

This manual has a range of focus areas. From boxing for self-defence, through to the practical value of boxing for the armed forces. Opening with the author's view on technique and training, he follows up with anecdotes, stories and opinions from famous military boxing advocates of his era.
