Does your bullying policy protect all students?

A 2007 study uncovered a shocking fact: 80% of children with learning disabilities are bullied at school. As schools implement bullying policies, are they doing enough to address the unique needs of this 80%? Drawing on extensive research on bullying in schools, Barry McNamara shows school leaders, teachers and parents how to identify and understand bullying and implement an inclusive bullying prevention program. Readers will discover:

  • What research says about bullying against students with disabilities
  • How programs fail to serve this population
  • A roadmap for an inclusive schoolwide program
  • Special intervention and coping strategies

Dr. Barry McNamara is a Professor of Special Education at Dowling College, NY. He is the author of several books, including Keys to Parenting a Child With Attention Deficit Disorders and Keys to Dealing With Bullies, both coauthored with Francine McNamara, and Learning Disabilities: Appropriate Practice for a Diverse Population (Pearson). He has also written articles for regional parenting magazines and has been a consulting editor for Twins Magazine. He serves as a consultant to anti-bullying programs in a number of school districts, agencies and private schools in and around New York State, Connecticut, and New Jersey. He also consults on issues related to ADHD, co-teaching, and behavioral problems. Dr. McNamara makes frequent presentations to PTAs, SEPTAS (Special Education PTAs), and CHADD (Children and Adults With ADD) and is on the Professional Advisory Board of CHADD.
