In diesem Buch geht der Autor der Frage nach, wie die Lebenssituation syrischer Flüchtlinge in der Türkei, und hier insbesondere in der Metropole Istanbul als wirtschaftlich, kulturell und bevölkerungstechnisch wichtigster Stadt, ausschaut. Dafür erläutert der Autor zunächst die Hintergründe des Bürgerkriegs in Syrien und geht anschlie end auf die Flüchtlingssituation in Istanbul ein. In diesen Krieg sind verschiedene Akteure mit eigenen Machtinteressen verwickelt. Diese Mischung birgt ein hohes Spannungspotenzial. Auf der Grundlage persönlicher Interviews zeigt der Autor die Lebensbedingungen der syrischen Flüchtlinge in der Türkei auf und beleuchtet die Arbeit von NGOs sowie den rechtlichen Umgang mit Flüchtlingen vor Ort.
