This is where pilots who brave the elements and the dangers of bush flying excel in their intrepid ways to deliver the people and goods that are necessary for survival.

The story is written by the pilot who survived this ordeal and lived to tell the tale. The location is the heavily forested Western region of Guyana, (originally British Guiana), and based on the gold mining that was such an essential part of life in the early 1950s and '60s.

The gold mining entrepreneurs (Pork Knockers) were an integral part of the unique history of the country and the bush pilots who supported them during the "yellow fever" rush. Many personal stories and tragedies made this period interesting times to be involved in aviation. Many pilot lives were lost and some aircraft and bodies were never recovered.

About The Author

Rohee, Dave: - A retired airline pilot and aviation consultant. DAVE ROHEE has spent over 40 years in the aviation industry. His career started in British Guiana (now Guyana) in the early '60s as an aircraft mechanic, then as a bush pilot flying in the heavily forested regions of South America. He survived the dangers of single-engine flying over inhospitable jungles for many years. He graduated to more structured airline operations as a second officer, and eventually as a captain in the National Airline. Dave has lived a unique and vicarious life full of adventures and misadventures in six countries during his career. A freelance journalist and author, ho now writes about his aviation experiences and lives in Florida.
